DEEP IN THE HEART OF THE LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK – ZAMBIA …

The primary focus of a Tusk & Mane safari is the wilderness itself.  An experience that takes you back in time to those legendary “Hemingway” escapades in a part of Africa that will reconnect you with nature and replenish your senses. They operate our fly camp between two very different sites on the beautiful eastern section of the lower Zambezi river – Chosen to compliment each other and to give the best locations for all the Lower Zambezi activities. Each camp has with a well stocked bar and seating area under canvas and ensuite bathrooms. The fly camps are light weight and a textbook example of how light luxury in the wilderness can be.

The whole experience can be booked exclusivly on a private use basis – 8 beds, two vehicles, 3 boats and 6 canoes – the whole Tusk & Mane team and camp just for you. The perfect tailored safari at a unbeatable rate. Contact us for more details.

Kulefu Island and Chula Island are tucked away on remote Islands in the prime game viewing area near Jeki airfield.

Chulu Island:

Chula means frog in Goba – the local language in this area. It is located on the Katengahumba /Discovery Island and is our nearest site to Jeki Airfield. This island is like jurassic park …full of surprises, it is full of hidden lagoons and open dambos. The game is unbelievable and we have seen leopard, lion, hyena , buffalo herds and lots of elephant to mention a few species. There is actually no need to venture further than this island paradise.

The atmosphere on chula is very different to anywhere else , it even looks different with loads of Natal Mahogany trees and sandy beaches…the perfect contrast to Kutali camp.

Kutalie Camp:

Kutali Camp is on Kulefu Island …both mean far away place…Kutali is your classic Winter-thorn forest zambezi valley camp…it is literally in one of the coolest Faidherbia or Winter thorn forests in the lower Zambezi …this gives it a very different atmosphere to Chula . Kulefu Island offers excellent Canoeing and walking possibilities and is just a river crossing away from mainland for our game drives.

MAKE THE MOST OF THE LOWER ZAMBEZI’S DIVERSITY

The experience is a back to nature wilderness adventure. Game viewing is totally flexible but is primarily on foot or on the canoes; Game Drives, Boat Cruises and Fishing are still very much on offer as well. The camps are simple with old style luxury camping, under the stars and around the campfire. We recommend a minimum 4-night stay split between Kutali & Chula Camp. This will make sure you make the most of the variety of activities on offer in the Lower Zambezi National Park. The range of activities from your doorstep is a stand out feature of the Lower Zambezi compared to other african parks. Kutali & Chula are located to make the most of this aspect and to compliment each other.
